How much Elterngeld in Baden-Württemberg?

Exactly as much as everywhere else: 65 to 100% of the Elterngeld net income before the birth, at least €300 and at most €1,800 Basic Elterngeld a month, plus any sibling bonus or multiple-birth supplement. This is set by the federal Elterngeld act, not by the state. How much you get is worked out by the calculator above; the Elterngeld table gives an overview.

Where to apply?

In Baden-Württemberg you apply for Elterngeld at the L-Bank, the state development bank. It is responsible for the whole state, so you do not need to look for a local office. You send the paper form to Karlsruhe or hand it in at your town hall (Bürgermeisteramt).

Applying online

The L-Bank online application uses the BundID. It is completely paperless if you log in with the online ID function. Otherwise you print the application at the end or have it sent to you free of charge; it only takes effect once it reaches the L-Bank signed. What you enter in the L-Bank Elterngeld planner can be carried over into the application.

Multiple births

With triplets or more, the state pays a one-off €1,700 per child, regardless of income. You apply at the L-Bank within 12 months. Twins do not get this, but Elterngeld has the multiple-birth supplement, see twins and multiples.

Deadline and documents

The Elterngeld office only pays back for the 3 months of life before the month of life in which the application arrives. The last day and a checklist are in how to apply for Elterngeld, how to split the months in the split planner.
