How much Elterngeld in Saxony?

Exactly as much as everywhere else: 65 to 100% of the Elterngeld net income before the birth, at least €300 and at most €1,800 Basic Elterngeld a month, plus any sibling bonus or multiple-birth supplement. This is set by the federal Elterngeld act, not by the state. How much you get is worked out by the calculator above; the Elterngeld table gives an overview.

Where to apply?

In Saxony the districts and the independent cities of Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig process the application. The office where you live is responsible; on amt24 you enter your town or postcode.

Applying online

Saxony has its own online system, not mein-elterngeldantrag.de. With a free account you upload proofs and can sign electronically. On paper it works via the form on amt24.

State child-raising allowance

Saxony is the only state that still pays a state child-raising allowance: €150 for the first, €200 for the second and €300 from the third child a month, in the 2nd or 3rd year of life after Basic Elterngeld. Condition: no state-subsidised daycare or childminder place and at most 30 hours of work a week. Depending on the number of children it is paid for 5 to 7 months, in certain cases in the 3rd year for 9 or 12 months. Up to the second child it depends on income.

Deadline and documents

The Elterngeld office only pays back for the 3 months of life before the month of life in which the application arrives. The last day and a checklist are in how to apply for Elterngeld, how to split the months in the split planner.
